Problem:
I cannot get my Crystal 7 reports to run on Crystal 8.
SOLUTION:
You will have to convert the Database Driver used in your Crystal 7 reports to use the Connectivity Kit version 2 in Crystal 8 so that the new .DLLs are used:
1.) Make sure there is only one version of Crystal installed on the computer (.dll files will confict between the versions)
2.) In Crystal 8 open the Crystal 7 report in Design mode (do not go to preview! - you may get an error message - just click OK - so the report opens)
3.) From the Database pulldown select "Convert Database Driver"
4.) Check the "Convert the database driver on the next refresh" and from the combo form select "pdbdfapi.dll" - (if you do not see this dll listed - you do not have the DataFlex for Crystal Reports Connectivity Kit installed correctly)
5.) Click "YES" and "OK" on the dialogs that come up (*)
6.) From the File pulldown, select "Save As" and give it a new report name so you do not write over the crystal 7 version (i.e.: Cust.rpt --> Cust8.rpt)
7.) Close the report
8.) Reopen the new report
9.) press the lighting bolt button to refresh the data and go to preview mode
All should work!
(*) You may need to map your fields after getting "The database file <your file> has changed. Proceeding to fix up the report!" messages for the files included in the report. If the "Map Fields" screen is displayed, uncheck the 'Match type' box. On the left side you will have the report fields and on the right side your actual file fields. Look for the field in the right side window that you know is the match for the highlighted report field and click on MAP. When you finish and all fields have a match, click on OK. Now you can proceed to step 6 above.
